Gathering of Steampunks for Cinco de Mayo!

Well, that's kind of the excuse I'm using, but the reality is that this is all about the Flux Capacitor show.

This is a truly extraordinary group of artists who are working in Steampunk. This is one of those inspirational things that I'm really hoping we can pull a bunch of people out for.

Since it's Cinco de Mayo, I figured we could experiment with what a Steampunk Cinco de Mayo looks like. Steampunk pinata? Steampunk Sombrero? (terrifying)

Here are some images from the show.

First sketch of ideas for eyes.

The "Eyes" have it!

Frustration! Irritation! Consternation! These are words that describe the mindset of the thwarted Maker. That would be me.

Far too many months of my only outlet being words spilling across the page of my computer and near-meaningless drivel of the very soul of banality, business planning and financials have chipped away at me until I am fit do commit unspeakable acts upon the world.

Before my plans for mayhem come closer to fruition, I have decided to constrain the more violent angels of my nature and calm them with that which appeals to the finer parts of us all.

CREATION!

So, I decided to roll out an idea that several of us have discussed at length and give it a home where I can express the wonders of makerhood and vent my frustration about inanimate objects that seek to thwart my momentum of creation.

In short, welcome to Iron Bodger. This is a place where I will post a running diatribe of truly meaningless, although occasionally entertaining stories of my return to makerhood. Within the greasy, oxy-acetylene stained, somewhat toxic halls of this blog will also be found gems from the inside of far more brilliant minds and more talented hands than my own.

But first, we begin with the upcoming project. I have entitled this "The "Eyes" have it" because the first project on the docket deals with eyes.

I will be working on either a set of goggles with a more human eye look to them, or a mask with some form of eyes. As a metalsmith, this will encompass some found objects and if they prove up to the task, their inclusion into the object, or it may be of metal that I form into the shape I wish.

Here, you will be regaled with my triumphs and be able to join me in the slovenly drunken ramblings of failure.

So, keep your eye on this space for new ideas and adventures at IRON BODGER!
